How to add +1 to your pages, and how that may help your site? Should you add this feature to your website? We have answers.

How does +1 work?

If you are familiar with the Facebook like button, you’ll get this concept rather quickly. Once the +1 is clicked, Google’s feature not only shares content within a user’s network, but Google also reconfigures the search results for those within the user’s network with the +1 content at a higher placement.

For example, let’s say you click the +1 button on a costume company you traded with for Halloween, then someone in your network searches for costumes. This person will see a box beneath the results to that page saying that you +1’d with your name.

Should you add this feature to your website?

With the growing popularity of Google’s social networking site as well as all the features that come with having a Google profile, it’s a good idea to take advantage of the +1 opportunity. If your website’s design can handle the addition of the +1 button, it’s foreseeably worth the effort. All you need is for the right person to click on that button to be recommended to hundreds of users within her network.

How do I install the +1 button?

Examine your webpage to determine a place in the header and a place where you want the button to appear. The Official Google Blog offers detailed pictures, video and step by step information on how to install the button.

Recently Google has added to their ever expanding internet empire with their new social networking site, Google Plus. Google Plus is said to be everything that Facebook isn’t. The most talked about feature is the Google Plus Circles. You can post updates, videos, and pictures to a certain “circle” of friends, or to everyone. This is highly desirable by many because it allows you to separate your work and personal life if you choose

Google+ now has over 20 Million users, and thats only in three weeks. To add to the staggering number is the fact that all of those people were by invite only. While Google+ was in beta, users were only allowed to use the site if they were invited by a current member.

The only launch that came close to Google+s’ numbers were Twitter’s back in 2009, and that was over a few month time span. Google+ is expected to grow dramatically over the next few months, and Google hasn’t even marketed the site to their Billion plus search engine users.

Google+, an upcoming social network, has women catching up with their male counterparts. The percentage of women users registering jumped from 23% on July 4th to 33% on July 14th.

It is predicted by Paul Allen, founder of Ancestry.com, that Google+’s female population may surpass that of business social network LinkedIn come August. LinkedIn’s staistics, for it’s estimated 100 million users, report 63% male and 37% female.

Allen determined Google+’s gender estimates using a method based on US Census data about surname-popularity (the popularity of an individual’s last name) and the number of Goggle+ users with each surname.
