In Europe, Firefox more popular than IE

According to StatCounter, Firefox browser has 38.11% of the European market share, while Microsoft IE has 37.52%. However, the situation occurred not because Firefox experience growth, but because Google Chrome took the market share away from Internet Explorer.

“This appears to be happening because Google?s Chrome is stealing share from Internet Explorer while Firefox is mainly maintaining its existing share,” says StatCounter CEO Aodhan Cullen.

Google Chrome has recently experienced remarkable growth in Europe, and jumped from 5.06% to 14.58% market share within 1 year.

Internet Explorer Drops Worldwide

According to the StatCounter, Internet Explorer drops below 50% market share. It is very surprising, a new version of the browser IE9 had an impressive debut last month.

StatCounter Global Stats shows that the family of Internet Explorer browsers has below 50% of the market, down from about 60% a year ago. This is a worldwide statistics. IE is still above 50% in North America, however it has dropped to 40% in Europe. In Asia Internet Explorer is doing peaty good and it dominants with nearly 60% of the market.

Coming back to worldwide stats, Firefox still has a strong position number two, number three is Chrome.

If we compare use of browsers only in North America, we can see an interesting battle for the third place between Chrome and Safari.

Facebook’s Chat will not work with IE6

Starting next month (September 15) Facebook’s chat will no longer be supported on Internet Explorer 6. Facebook will improve chat performance and add new functionalities which are not supported on older browsers like IE6.

According to the newest data from netmarketshare.com, IE6 is the second most popular browser, with 16.97 percent of global market share. Number one is IE8, which has 26.87 percent.

Last month IE and Safari get more fans, while other browsers lost users.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 – 16.97%
Firefox 3.6 – 16.15%

Browser Market Share June 2010

Browser Market Share for June 2010 shows that Firefox and Opera don’t change their position, Safari and Chrome are slowly moving up. The biggest news is that Internet Explorer gained market share. Bad news for Web developers – actually even Internet Explorer 6 gained market share this month.

Internet Explorer, Microsoft’s browser is used by more than 6 out of 10 people. Statistics shows that IE8 is used by more than one in four users on the Web. Unfortunately for Website developers and Web designers, IE6’s share is greater than IE7’s. Indeed Internet Explorer 6 gained 0.01 percentage points this month. The reason of it is that business still us using IE6 for customized intranet applications, also we can see that Windows XP (which has integrated Internet Explorer 6) is still more popular than Vista.

Chrome more popular than Safari

A web analytics company Statcounter announced a press release with a study which shows that Google’s Chrome is the third most used browser in the United States. During a study the company considered 874 million page views from the network of over three million websites. Out of this number Chrome had a market share of 8.97% , Apple’s Safari has 8.88%.

Microsoft’s Internet Explorer is still the most popular browser and has 52% of the market. Firefox is a number two with 28.5%.

Results are a surprise, it is enough to image that every single apple computer comes with Safari. Apple’s indeed has now 10% of the computer market share. On the other hand Google’s Chrome is not bundled with any computer as a default browser. Google’s Chrome is also the newest browser in the market, Chrome was introduced 2 years ago.

Browsers war on my PC

I have switched from WindowsXP to Windows 7. So far, so good, better that Windows Visa. Anyway, as a web developer I have to have all possible browsers on my computer, so I can check cross browser compatibility for websites I develop. I installed all of them (IE8, Opera, Firefox, Safari, Chrome) and I just faced a series of questions: “Would you like to make xxx your default browser?” The point is, during the fast flow of work I just click “no” without selecting “Don’t ask me again,” so the question will come back. Anyway, I selected Chrome as a default one.

Google will not support anymore Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 6 Web browser. Support for Internet Explorer 6 in Google Docs and Google Sites will end March 1, 2010. That means IE6 users who try to use Google Docs or Google Sites may find that “key functionality” don’t work correctly. To ensure the best experience and highest security, be sure to keep your browser updated. Use those or more recent versions of browsers: Internet Explorer 7, Mozilla Firefox 3.0, Google Chrome 4.0 or Safari 3.0.

An announcement from a blog of Rajen Sheth, Google Apps senior product manager: “Many other companies have already stopped supporting older browsers like Internet Explorer 6.0 as well as browsers that are not supported by their own manufacturers. We’re also going to begin phasing out our support, starting with Google Docs and Google Sites.”

According to StatCounter, Internet Explorer has 18 percent market share among browsers.
