No, the films won’t be inundated with advertisements. Rather, they?ll have the online equivalent of a tip jar.

How Tip Jar works

Exactly as the name suggests, once Tip Jar is enabled, viewers can click a link that reads “Tip this video,” which will allow them to donate a sum between $0.99 and $500 to the video. PayPal will manage all payments for which credit cards are not utilized.

The nitty gritty

  • Tip Jar currently only works for videos played at Vimeo.com
  • The company is working on adding the Tip Jar feature to embedded videos
  • You don’t have to be logged in to tip videos
  • 85% of the funding gross is given to the content creator
