Microsoft sold more than 60 million copies of Windows 7 by the end of 2009. This quick growth has continued through the first quarter of 2010 and now Windows 7 has 10% market share.

Windows XP dropped to 64.46 percent market share, Windows Vista to 16.01 percent, and Windows 7 jumped to 10.23 percent. Mac operating system has 5.55 percent, Linux 1.03%.

Browsers war on my PC

I have switched from WindowsXP to Windows 7. So far, so good, better that Windows Visa. Anyway, as a web developer I have to have all possible browsers on my computer, so I can check cross browser compatibility for websites I develop. I installed all of them (IE8, Opera, Firefox, Safari, Chrome) and I just faced a series of questions: “Would you like to make xxx your default browser?” The point is, during the fast flow of work I just click “no” without selecting “Don’t ask me again,” so the question will come back. Anyway, I selected Chrome as a default one.

According to a new data from quantcast.com, in January 2010 Windows versions share of web consumption is: Windows XP – 51.8%, Windows Vista – 37.4%, Windows 7 – 10.2%, Windows Other – 0.6%.
