Speech-to-speech translation from Google

Google has two extraordinary tools: a voice recognition and an automatic system for translating text. Right now the company is working on combining those two technologies to create software which will understand a caller’s voice and translate it into a synthetic equivalent in a foreign language. Just like a human interpreter. “We think speech-to-speech translation should be possible and work reasonably well in a few years’ time,” said Franz Och, Google’s head of translation services.
